"AFTER ALL"
OCTOBER OVERVIEW
The weekend at Junipers was a good one. Many
friends were there to have a good time and dance the night away. We look forward to getting some bookings there next year.
Thanks to our good friends Mark(who celebrates another birthday this month!) & Karen and Steve & Renie for driving
down!
There was a great turnout at the "Escapades
Singles" dance at The NYAC/Travers Island, NY location. We can always count on particular people (you
know who you are) to be the first ones to get on the floor...and STAY on the floor...we don't mean lying down...we mean
DANCING! Good to see Nikki, and Ginger and Dan!
Nan
had two solo gigs...at The Daybreak in Plainville (what a wonderful group of people...packed house and what response!
Thanks to Sandy for the gig!) and The Atria in Waterford(lovely, lovely people!) Please say some
prayers for Shirl's Mom who was a resident there and has now been transferred to another location after a fall.
Nancy would like to have one of these a day...and they do
better than a multi-vitamin!
We
had the pleasure of entertaining the Meriden High School Class of 1958 for their 50th reunion at the Aqua Turf in Southington!
Lot's of memories being spoken of that day! We saw people we knew as well, which brought back
memories for us...like Russ and Joyce (Nan grew up with Russ and his sister Marilyn as they were her Mom's best friend
Betty's kids!) and Lauren, who worked with Nan's Brother George! We sat at a table with some really
great people too. It was almost like we were part of the class! Many Kudos too(which
is always a boost for us..yes we need them periodically...it's like getting a battery charge!). Thanks
to Ann G. and Marianne for having us!
We played indoors at SONO Boat Club...a
little too nippy out for the deck! Thanks to Roberta and Jeannie for being there to support us!
The surprise 50th B-day party at The Glastonbury Elk Club for Brett
was a definite success! He was indeed surprised and as he walked in we played "Man of Constant Sorrows"
which is his favorite song. We DJ'd a bit at the beginning and did all country and late 60's stuff
for the rest of the evening. It was like being frozen in the 60's for a while, which made us feel like
we were back in school! Thanks to Brett's Mom Betty and Dad Don for the gig!
Testo's was PACKED...and we mean PACKED with people...mostly college
kids......now THAT was an interesting evening..Thank goodness they like the music from our generation! There
were actually people dancing...what a concept!
The Waterbury
Elks are redoing their bar, so we ended up playing in their banquet hall, with a nice big stage! Thanks
to the "Pomperaug Gilrs" for being there, plus our "Special Table" headed by Gil. It
was a rainy, nasty night that was made better by...yes...you guessed it.... YOU!
We finished the month with our weekend at The Water's Edge. We just got our
2009 bookings with them and it will not be the last weekend of every month. That made it so easy for us
because we knew when we'd be there without having to look at our calendar! Ah well.....so much for
status quo!
The Friday there was Halloween...and we
thought there would be some sort of party, which would have made sense...but...NOOOOOOO. It was DEAD (no
pun intended!). One person came dressed up like Samantha Stevens...and her husband was Darin...Nan called
them Sam and Derwood, or Sam and Darwin all night, which gave her a laugh...she IS amused very easily and admittedly so!
Saturday was better with our own Joan and
Jim and Shirl and Tom...Nancy has adopted them as Sister's and Brothers in Law. Like I said...easily
amused! Bing and Claire were there too...Terry and Fred were away, but were missed, as well as Jack and
Patty.
We apologize if we didn't include your names...and
to be honest...we are not always good with names...OH OH..what does that tell you?? That we're getting
old?? NOOOO..that we meet too many people! Maybe we should start passing out name tags....ARGH!
Nick and I were invited to a get together for our good friend and fellow musician Ozone Pete,
as his CD that we sang back up on for four of the tunes will be released soon. We have gotten an advanced
copy and will be playing it at the gigs. It's a bluesy, rock sound with some excellent guitar riffs courtesy of the magnificent
Jay Johnson, along with keyboard/percussion by Tom & bass from Jeff, both with the long time "TireBiter Band".
Nick was in his glory talking "shop" and we had a wonderful home-cooked comfort food meal along with a bon
fire..it was like the old days! Gosh...a lot of that this month!
Nick was blessed with his second grandchild...a boy named J.P.!
Now he has one of each....congrats! He's a beautiful little one!
Come see us....if we don't see you first!!
